Back to work!!!

I can't believe it .......after more than 6 months of not having a workshop, and feeling totally despondent at the lack of suitable available space in this village, I have decided to create my own little corner in our entrance hallway..... something I have resisted as it is a very 'public' spot in the overall plan of our apartment.

Initially I thought the idea might lead to divorce, but have been met with a significant level of enthusiasm and immense support ..... I think the need for me to be occupied is obvious!! I'm not yet sure how the practical implementation will work as our total space is quite small and we are both working from home for the moment..... And of course I will be limited to some extent in what I can do but will cross each bridge as I come to it.... I'm looking for alternatives to using rouge on the polishing machine as neither the machine or the rouge work well in a 'white' environment.... and I think I'll be using the small soldering torch..... but there's fun to be had with that...

So.... let the creative juices flow..... and hopefully I'll be posting some new and interesting work here soon!

It doesn't seem like 4 months since I packed up my workshop in the vieux village of Roquebrune Cap Martin but winter is almost over and the irises and wattle are announcing the coming of spring, and still I have not found a new place to work!

My 'old' studio is being renovated and rejuvenated - and a transformation is certainly taking place. It certainly won't be the place for mucky silversmithing when the work is completed in a couple of months. So, my search continues.....

There are lots of places sitting idle in the village but it seems owners are not very keen on renting them - my suspicion is that there is so much bureaucracy involved, so much paperwork, and after charges and taxes the small income earned is just not worth it. And so I wait, with eyes and ears open.

Meantime, I am putting my time to good use and attacking some of the other 'things I would like to do', one of which is to revamp this website - watch this space! I am going to amalgamate this site with my emedee-silver blogspot, so there should be some changes soon - feedback will be welcome!

'Coral Sea', 'I can dance' and 'Paris in Spring' have been naturally cast - salt, rice, and pine needles create the silver shapes and the titanium is coloured to create the 'look'!

'Homage' was cast on pine needles, while 'Dinosaur on a Rock' was cast on salt. Both are in private collections.

This bangle is unusual - quite distinctive as is the 'mummy' on the right.

This pendant was cast by pouring molten silver over fusilli noodles! Its in a private collection.

'Animal charm' bracelet was cast on pine needles!

The pendant on the right, 'Earth 3' is one of several in the same style - it also looks great on a black cord.

Extended Segments Pendants

Constructed from 5 segments of titanium, riveted onto an extended semi-circle of silver with brass rivets, this pendant is completed with brass detail around the edge. The titanium has been heated to give colours ranging from blue to purple to gold, which contrasts with the silver and brass. Photos show two different pendants, highlighting the differences in colour of the titanium.

The pendant is suspended with black cord with a sliding double knot to provide adjustable length. Chain is available at additional cost.

It measures approximately 2 1/4 “ (60 cm) across.

Graduated Byzantine Earrings

Graduated Byzantine style chainmaille earrings are finished with ironstone (hematite), pearls, or silver rings. All rings are handmade, and ear wires can be open (not shown) or secure, as in middle photo.

Glossy Domed Sterling Silver Earrings

These domed earrings are approximately 2.5 cm across (1") and are polished to a high lustre. These are made for pierced ears, but fit snugly to the earlobe. They can be easily made into clip-ons. They perfectly match the domed silver bracelet.

Knitted Sterling Silver and Pearl Cuff

This knitted pearl cuff is approximately 10 cm (4") wide by 15cm (6") long. It is knitted in sterling silver wire with seed pearls randomly knitted in. It has a degree of spring which enables it to fit most wrist sizes.

Titanium Domed Earrings

These titanium domed earrings are very light, very dark blue with a matt finish. They are 2 1/2 cm (1") across and are suspended by balled sterling silver ear wires.

Knitting and Beads - Sterling Silver Pendant

The top pendant is knitted in sterling silver wire with black seed beads randomly knitted in, the lower is knitted with multi-coloured beads in shades of blue, green purple and brown.

Each pendant is supported on a frame of silver wire, and hung from a leather cord, which is double knotted to provide an adjustable length. The pendant measures approximately 2 by 2.5 inches (50 by 60 cms)

This pendant can be made to order to your size and with your choice of coloured beads, coral or seed pearls. A matching chain can be added at additional cost if that is preferred over leather cord. Please email me to stipulate your requirements and preferred length.

Titanium and Silver Pendant

Titanium and Silver Leaf Pendant hangs approximately 40cm, and is 20 cm across. Sterling silver provides a border for green/blue titanium. Brass rivets and silver wire decorate the piece.

Titanium rectangles, 12 mm by 35 mm (3/8 by 1.5 inches), golden colour with hints of blue and purple. Cultured pearls hang from the end, hand made sterling silver earrwires. Earrings hang approximately 50 mm (2").

Byzantine Bracelet

This soft and flexible bracelet is easy to wear, made from 1mm sterling silver links in a classic Byzantine style. All links have been hand made and polished. The clasp is magnetic which is great for those who find bracelet clasps too fiddly, with a safety chain for extra security. Toggle or lobster clasps are also well suited to this bracelet.

This bracelet is 7 ½ “ long (19cm) and is approximately ¼” (5mm) in diameter, but it can be made to specific requirements.

Domed Silver bracelet

This bracelet has been made from 7 domed sterling silver disks, joined together with hand-made links and a toggle clasp. It has been polished to a high lustre. The bracelet measures approximately 7 inches long (18 cm) and 3/4 inch wide (2cm). The high lustre is not fully reflected in the photographs so I have included a couple of shots to try to capture its sheen.

Knitted Sterling Silver and Bead Cuff

This cuff has been knitted in sterling silver, with multi-coloured metallic beads in shades of blue, green and purple randomly knitted in. It is supported in a wire frame.

The cuff is approximately 2" wide (almost 6 cm) and 6" long (15cm). It will fit most wrists as it has a certain degree of 'spring' which will enable it to be adjusted. If you are uncertain about size, please contact me. These can be individually made to a specific size or bead colour. It looks fabulous with seed pearls!

Segments- Silver and Titanium Pendant

This pendant was made from my favourite metal - titanium, this time coloured in shades of orange and pink with just a hint of blue. The titanium is riveted onto a sterling silver base and with brass 'pips' in the 'segments' and a brass strip around the edge. It is suspended from a double knotted cord to provide variable length.

Water casting

The top earrings were made for someone special - they are very subtle - smallish, about half an inch across, and with a relatively low profile.

Moon Rocks are the lower photo - the light and shade with the irregularity of the shapes and lustre remind me of craters, mountains, and the wild! These are about 20cm across - and match the Free Form pendant. As you can see from the shadows, they have a relatively high profile and give their square base a very irregular appearance.

These earrings have posts with butterfly clamps, but I am happy to make them as clip-ons.

Silver Necklace

This cute little pendant is after a basic leaf design with a cut out pattern soldered onto a piece of sheet sterling silver which gives depth and interest. The inner surface has been satin finished, while the upper surface is highly polished. It has a ¼” silver tube on each side, and hangs from a 16” leather cord with hand made sterling silver S clasp. The leaf is 1 ¼ “ long and ½” across.

Water Cast Pendant

This pendant has been water cast. Selected interesting shapes so formed have been soldered onto a silver square exterior frame, giving it an unusual texture and irregular edges. It has been left with a silver- white finish.

Titanium Pendant

This pendant reminds me of plums at the height of summer! The lustrous colours of blue, red, gold, green and purple mix and shine in different lights to create an everchanging picture. The colours of the titanium are complemented by the sterling silver ‘caps’ which are riveted with brass to each piece of fruit, and the copper branch from which they are suspended by sterling silver rings.

The branch is suspended from a beige string with sliding knots, making the pendant length adjustable.

The pendant is approximately 4” long and 3” across (10 by 7.5 cm), the large pieces of fruit 1” (2.5 cm) diameter.

Earrings

These earrings are light and easy to wear. The top ones are light chains hanging over a textured strip of silver and suspended from a ball and post. They hang approximately 4cm (1 1/2 inches).

The centre ones are in a private collection, but can be repeated in a similar style - exactly the same is not possible! They are domed with a random pattern and finished with a satin lustre. They hang from handmade wires approximately 4cm.

The bottom ones are also in a private collection. I called them 'balls and chains' - silver balls form a flower on a strip of silver, and 4 different kinds of chain hang from the edge of the strip. The chains sparkle and swing with head movement. These are about 5 cm long.

Sterling Silver Drinking Straws

Here is another of my favourite drinking straws - this time in sterling silver with a sterling silver wire decoration - great for providing a non-slip grip! Its 20cm long, and fits neatly into most (well, many!) handbags. It is delivered in a black box with silver ribbon, either singly or in sets of 2, complete with its own cleaning cloth!

The quirky brooch has been designed and made to hold a standard sized silver straw so the straw is worn on the lapel - easily accessible, and quite smart! It is made of sterling silver, with wound silver wire soldered onto a sterling silver base. The pin and catch are also hand made.
